Five Habits in Five Minutes
If you’re anything like me, vision gets you excited! You dream big and find yourself starry-eyed as you see potential in everything.
I believe that’s why I struggled in my relationship with myself God and others for many years. I had a vision that I would be an on-fire missionary for God somewhere in Somalia, but I didn’t trust that God truly loved me. I had a vision (and still do) that I would be financially wealthy with a large home, open to anyone God sent my way, but I struggled with a poverty mindset. I had a vision that I would be like The Rock, but more like “The Pebble” but I wasn’t eating enough to fuel my body. All of those visions are great, and attainable if in God’s will for me, but everything big, must start small. The Rock was once a baby, a house starts out as a slab of concrete and well, and one dollar is the first step to a million. Small habits lead to big results. Here are five small habits proven to make a holistic impact on your mind, body and spirit. Try excerising these habits first thing in the morning and observe how it makes a difference.
Pray. The moment you open your eyes, give God gratitude. Spend 60 seconds thanking him for another day, for who he is, and what amazing things he has in store for you today. Lastly, thank God for one person in your life. Honestly, I like to think of someone who has hurt me or frustrated me and find a reason to be glad for that experience. It helps me release their power of my mind, will and emotions.
Drink 16 oz of water. Keep a water bottle on your night stand ready to drink first thing in the morning. This doesn’t have to be done in 60 seconds. Spread out this water intake over the course of five minutes. You become very dehyrated over the course of 7-9 hours you sleep so your organs are desperate for water upon waking.
Stretch. You would be surprised how much tension is is housed in our bodies. Roll out your neck. Stretch your arms, Touch your toes. Do some hip flexors. STRETCH.
Speak truth. There is so much power in the words we speak so why not use that power for good. Speak Godly affirmations over yourself every morning. Remind yourself who and whose you are in Christ. Clothe yourself with the full armour of God (Ephesians 6) and go forth in his might and power!
Sit Still. Once you have done all those things, take 60 seconds to sit still. Pay attention to your breathing and quiet your mind. These may be the only moments of stillness you will have all day.
