New Year, Old Ways

Happy New Year everyone! What a blessing it is to celebrate another year! We are halfway through the 2020’s and it feels surreal to acknowledge that. Every year, there is probably someone you will encounter who wants to pick up something new with the hopes of continuing that for the next 12 months or possibly forever. They call it “New Years Resolutions”. I admit, I have definitely jumped on that band wagon but I have also fallen off of it — fallen hard. This year, I had a different idea in mind and I would like for you to consider joining me. Instead of developing a new habit, why don’t we consider what old habits we let go and reincorporate that. Let’s rid ourselves of unnecessary habits that serve us no purpose and bear no fruit.

Here are a few examples:

Let go of bringing your phone to the dinner table

Adopt the practice of presence with your family

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Let go of watching television one day a week

Adopt reading a book, doing a crossword puzzle, or journaling

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Let go of eating out at least once a week

Adopt a simple, healthy quick-fix meal regimen

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Let go of unforgiveness, bitterness, and resentment

Adopt a heart of grace, gratitude, and compassion

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Let go of solely texting and snapchatting

Adopt a schedule to connect with friends in person and/or take your spouse on a date

Most of us previously adopted this behaviors but in the busyness and comfort of life, we have let them go. This week, think of 3 “old ways” you no longer practice and implement each one week at a time. Be encouraged not to give up after a few weeks! It’s a new year, but not all old ways have to be left behind.
